About the New Revised Standard Version Bible - NRSV

The New Revised Standard Version is the 1989 revision of the RSV and has been officially approved by the Catholic Church and is also quoted in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Like the RSV, it for the most part has a literal translation, except where the NRSV makes use of gender neutral language (also known as inclusive language). Gender neutral language is an effort to remove any language that is rooted in a word that has a masculine origin. Instead of the word “men,” the word “everyone” is used; instead of the word “brother,” the phrase “church member” is substituted.

Sample passages:

If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. Matthew 18:15

I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make them lie down, says the Lord God. I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak… Ezekiel 34: 15-16
